Burrendong Dam
The refurbishment of the Sluice Gate at Burrendong Dam was undertaken from June to Sept 2008 for the NSW State Water Corporation.The work floor was 13m below the top of the Intake Tower which was accessed by the existing 110m long structural steel bridge.
The Sluice Gate is a 24tonne Structutral Steel that can be lowered 35m on guide rails to seal off a water discharge tunnel.
The work included:
- Removing the wheel box cover plates and gate seals, removing the 14 guide wheels which were up to 250kg each and dismantling various gate components.
- Pressure Washing, Abrasive Blasting and Spray Painting all the immersed surfaces, approx 240sqm in total, to stringent Qualitry Assurance standards.
- Replacing the Brass & Graphite bushes on the wheel shafts.
- Reassembling the entire system and making ready for use.
